WWE Main Event – Review, Highlights & Analysis From 30/12/2014

The Cutting Edge Peep Show w./ Adam Rose

I think Edge seemed a bit too happy for a guy who was supposedly held hostage in a life-threatening situation just a day ago but who am I to judge. Also, another superstar threatening with a lawsuit. I know that the WWE Creative find this to be a realistic detail to put in a storyline but if we are to be realistic, had Rollins curbstomped Edge and had he injured him badly, the lawsuit would have been guaranteed anyway, so Rollins did not care about this in the first place.

When Adam Rose arrived, he delivered one of the most disturbing lines I’ve heard in a while: “The only thing I suck on is lollipops.” He dropped this one so casually; I almost didn’t realize why it felt so awkward.

Edge and Christian soon earned the “Lemons” title by asking about the Bunny and then stealing Adam Rose’s Rosebuds. The Exotic Express picked joining the 5s pose over leaving with Rose.

It’s not a bad idea for Rose to drop the Exotic Express. If he wants success, he needs to be more serious. Then again, he’d have to drop the whole Rose gimmick to achieve that.  At this point, he’s most likely to feud with people like Titus O’Neil, Fandango or R-Truth and that’s not very high up the food chain.

Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks

The NXT girls were given about 5 minutes to wrestle, so they didn’t have nearly enough time on their hands to show all they are capable of. It felt a bit rushed as they were trying to stuff a lot in a small window of time.

However, the match was still more engaging than any divas match that happens on the main roster.  Even with 5 minutes to work with, Charlotte and Sasha delivered a flawless face-off.

Santino’s New Year’s Eve Party

I struggled to understand what was going on in this segment. I think it’s because I was looking for some meaning in it but it was just a supposed comedy piece, involving Santino failing miserably to organize a party and Erick Rowan being the only guest to show up.

I might be weird, but this segment not only didn’t make me laugh, but it made me feel bad for those two. How can you find it funny when two people desperately try to celebrate and no one wants to respect their party invitations. Sad.

Titus O’Neil vs. Justin Gabriel

Titus came down the ramp, giving a promo about 2015 being the year of the Gator. This was a giveaway that in this heel vs. heel match Gabirel will be the one to go down.

At one point, the match turned into a beating. Titus was just tossing Justin around. Then the South Afircan used the ropes to mount some offense but Titus intercepted him, delivered a Clash of the Titus from the top rope and won.

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news here but 2015 will most probably not be the year of the Gator. The chances of Titus getting a main event push are almost nonexistent.

Santino’s New Year’s Eve Party 2

R-Truth stumbled upon the party by accident and decided he didn’t want to stay. That’s just mean!

The Usos vs. Gold & Stardust

The WWE is booking some very strange things to create a rift between Gold and Stardust. In the first half of the match, Goldust, who wasn’t legal at the time, ran across the apron, hung himself on the ropes and waited for Jimmy to kick him in the guts. I watched this moment on replay 3-4 times and I still don’t find any logic in his actions.

The bigger part of the match was good with a nice flow of movement. I’ve said it before – the Usos and the Dust Brothers can’t really have a bad match together. The most beautiful spot of the match was outside the ring when Jimmy jumped off the barricade and Stardust – from the steps, colliding midair. I watched that one on replay too but for the right reasons.

In the end, Stardust took out Goldust by accident and the Usos picked up the win.

I said it last week as well, the cracks between Gold & Stardust are leading to something bad. Their characters are too similar to exist separately as singles competitors on the main roster. Turning Stardust back to Cody would be a waste, knowing how well he fit in his new bizarre gimmick.
