The results of one of the latest polls on the WWE App show that 90% of the fans believe that Daniel Bryan is more deserving of a WHC match than Roman Reigns.
However, RockBottomRadio noted that another poll, which runs simultaneously on the WWE App, shows completely different results. 69% of the voters picked Roman Reigns as a better opponent for Brock Lesnar at WM31 as opposed to Daniel Bryan and Seth Rollins.
I can see why almost no one wants to see the Beast defend against Mr. MITB. It’s not that Rollins vs. Lesnar would be a bad match, quite the opposite actually, but it would be a pointless match, knowing that Rollins will cash in any way. It just doesn’t make sense to put him in 1 on 1 fight against the champion.
As for why Daniel Bryan is not voted a better opponent for Lesnar, I have two explanations – Lesnar vs. Reigns makes more sense plot-wise and it will simply be detrimental for Bryan’s health to throw him under the bus that The Beast is.
However, 90% did vote Daniel Bryan more deserving of that title shot. The conclusion is sad. It’s a perfect example of fair vs. good for business. Yes, Daniel Bryan, with 16 years of professional wrestling experience under his belt, is more deserving of the World Heavyweight Championship than Roman Reigns, hands down. Seeing a talented men like Bryan, who comes from the long and hard way through the indies, conquer the top of the WWE is truly monumental. The dream of the progressive wrestling fan is to see the WWE evolve and become, beyond any shadow of a doubt, the stage of the best wrestlers in the world, throwing away all the prejudice, surrounding their background. The progressive wrestling fan will naturally want to see Daniel Bryan pave the way to achieving this dream.
To summarise the main points of my analysis: Reigns’ heritage makes for a great story to underline a feud with Lesnar. Reigns’ build makes him a visually and safety-wise a better fit to face a rough power house, such as the Beast. Reigns’ past with the Shield perfectly sets up for a rivalry against Mr. MITB, coming out of WM31 and possible leading to a triple threat, involving Dean Ambrose after MITB 2015. And maybe, just maybe, Reigns’ heritage also makes him a very suitable candidate for the next Paul Heyman Guy.
So are the WWE Polls’ results contradicting each other? No. They’re just showing that the wrestling fans are smarter than you might think. Sometimes what’s morally right is not best for business and the votes tell us that the WWE Universe sees that too.
