WWE RAW – Review, Highlights & Analysis From 20/04/2015

Randy Orton/Seth Rollins

Randy gave a very detailed description of his plans for beating down Seth Rollins at Extreme Rules. Seth, on the other hand, claimed that he was not only better in the ring, but also smarter than everyone else. Orton responded by threatening an RKO spree until he hits the move on Rollins.

It’s shaping up to be a good feud but no matter how strong Randy looks, Seth is coming on top in the end.

Dean Ambrose vs. Luke Harper

That quickly turned from a match to a fight. The two men were brawling in the audience less than 2 minutes in. The ref lost control over them and then LED walls, ramps, and dives followed until Luke Harper pushed Ambrose off of the stage and ran away.

I feel that this feud is not getting enough attention. It’s entertaining to watch and is just the perfect Extreme Rules combination. I don’t know why it’s so low on the card.

The New Day def. The Lucha Dragons

Big E and Kofi represented the New Day in this #1 contender’s match for the tag team titles. Big E was struggling to contain Kalisto’s lucha fury. It was exciting to watch. As a matter of fact, Kalisto had both of his opponents in the palm of his hand.

New Day won in a very heel-like way. Xavier Woods hid underneath the ring and held Sin Cara’s legs so he couldn’t beat the 10 count. Their celebration was cut short by Orton who RKOed both Xavier and Kofi.

I like the idea of turning the New Day heel. Their gimmick was so bad to begin with that something drastic needs to be done for them to stay relevant.

Fandango def. Axel

Axel distracted himself by ripping his t-shirt off, which gave Fandango the upper hand and he never lost it since.

Face Fandango is a fan favourite for sure but much like Mizdow, he’ll probably never climb out of the midcard.

HHH/Kane/Seth Rollins

This segment was about HHH promoting Tough Enough and then about Kane telling Seth Rollins the truth.

Rollins didn’t take kindly the fact that Kane called him out for having been made a champion by the Authority. However, Triple H was on Kane’s side because Seth’s sky-high self-confidence is probably getting on the boss’s nerves too, so Trips made Kane the Gatekeeper for Rollins’ match against Orton at Extreme Rules.

Seth being Seth just can’t keep his mouth shut. He’ll suffer from Kane’s involvement in the match. Still, I think he’ll retain, proving that he’s a worthy champion, even without the help of the Authority.

Naomi def. Brie Bella

Promo-wise Naomi is a terrible heel. She just doesn’t sound convincing when she tries to play the bad girl. However, the more aggressive in-ring style, she’s using is definitely working well for her. She looked impressive in her match because she was relentless in her beat down of Brie Bella.

I think Naomi deserves the title and she actually has a chance of winning it. She did her heel turn on Paige, why not have her and Paige feud over the title after Extreme Rules?

RKO

Heath Slater was trying to talk to Erick Rowan when Orton showed up and RKO-ed him, making him the third victim in his RKO spree.

Roman Reigns/ Bo Dallas

Roman didn’t want to talk. He wanted to fight the Big Show. Instead, he got Bo Dallas, who was in a marvelous mood, quoting Master Yoda. Predictably, Reigns got upset and took Bo out with a Superman Punch and a Spear.

I think Bo is underrated. His character is unique and he’s funny. He needs to get more mic time and more exposure.

Sheamus def. Zack Ryder

The match was practically over 2 seconds in when Sheamus hit the Brogue Kick. However, the Celtic Warrior kept beating Ryder up, while trash talking on the microphone as he went. At one point, Ziggler had heard enough and ran out to save his friend, causing a DQ.

Sheamus is a tremendous heel. He can so easily dominate anyone and it would look believable. The only issues is that the stipulation at Extreme Rules is plain dumb. It could have been anything badass but it’s just about kissing ass in the end.

John Cena def. Kane

Kane, who was already having a bad day with Rollins, decided to answer Cena’s open challenge. Obviously Kane lost, making him even angrier. But the match wasn’t too bad. It was average at best but at least Kane actually wrestled this time.

Backstage Cena was giving an interview when he got attacked by Rusev, who was hysterically screaming “I’ll kill ya, boy!” in Bulgarian. The segment looked painful for Cena and promising for Extreme Rules. Still, I find it hard to believe that Rusev will regain the title.

Miz def. Mizdow

Summer Rae turned on Mizdow and cost him the match. Although it was the right decision to have Miz keep the Mzi brand, It wasn’t done the right way. Any momentum Mizdow had gained will go down the drain if the WWE keeps making him an afterthought.

As a retribution, Orton RKOed Miz after the match and it felt good.

Bray Wyatt

From this promo we gather that Bray’s new target is a weight-lifter. It made me think of Ryback, Cena, or Big E. People are saying it’s Ryback. I’d prefer it if they were wrong. Wyatt deserves better.

Ryback def. Adam Rose

The Big Guy easily defeated Adam Rose and the did a double ShellShock on a banana and a hotdog. Do you see now why I don’t want Bray to waste his time on this guy?

Kane

Kane was angry at Seth for having made fun of him in front of J&J. We all expected an altercation but actually got Rollins giving, what seemed to be, a genuine apology.  After all, Kane did help him get where he is.

Seth Rollins def. Dolph Ziggler

I’ve given up on the idea of seeing a match between these two end with a clean finish. Rollins and Ziggler delivered a great face-off until Sheamus came out to distract Dolph and cost him the match.

Afterwards Rollins took the opportunity to brag and insult Kane as well. Then Seth had to hide inside the steel cage to get away from the angry Kane. However, he ended up being locked in with Randy, who hit him with a nice RKO.

Rollins’ new finisher is crap. The curb stomp was distinctive and belonged to him. This new one is so close to the Dirty Deeds that I thought Rollins used Ambrose’ s move. If you are going to change the man’s finisher, at least do it right!
