WWE NXT – Review, Highlights & Analysis from 09/03/ 2016

Samoa Joe def. Sami Zayn

This week we had a very unorthodox episode of NXT. The entire show consisted of one single match – Samoa Joe vs. Sami Zayn for a shot at the NXT title.

The decision to give this match the whole length of the show was a bold move. It demonstrated the importance of being first in line. Also, a good 2 out of 3 falls match needs time to develop. NXT gave Joe and Zayn exactly that.

The fight kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. Before the first fall came you couldn’t tell who was going to get the first victory. They kept going back and forth.

Now, we knew that Sami was going to get the second fall because even if he was going to go down, he’d be booked to do it with dignity. What we didn’t expect was that Joe would tap out. That is a very rare sight and it showed the level at which Sami stands in the NXT hierarchy.

The third fall was brutal. It seemed like Joe was actually going to choke Sami to death. It looked as real as it gets. Joe needed that. He is a truly hated heel but he needed to trump Zayn and show dominance.

It wasn’t hard to tell that Sami was going to lose this one. After all, he already debuted back on the main roster in a feud for the IC title with Kevin Owens. A WM match between the two is pretty much guaranteed. However, he lost a match he can be proud of.
