WWE NXT – Review, Highlights & Analysis From 16/03/2016

Sami Zayn

Despite already being in the IC title picture on the main roster, Sami Zayn still kept playing up to the idea that he was chasing the NXT title. William Regal, however, had a much better idea.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Sami Zayn is a dream match. The crowd went completely insane when Nakamura popped up on the screen. So much so that I have no idea what Shinsuke said in his short clip, I don’t even know if it was in English or in Japanese. The reaction was overwhelming. Imagine the WM crowd, reacting to that match. It will be electric.

Realistically, NXT Takeover Dallas could be Sami’s last NXT match. If things turn out the way we expect them to, Sami will do double duty at WM weekend, competing both at Takeover and WM32. His last big loss on NXT and his first WWE title reign in a matter of hours.

The Hype Bros def. Angelo Dawkins & Kenneth Crawford

The Hypo Bros try really hard with all the yelling and all the unnatural jumping around but the fans don’t really care. Yes, Ryder and Mojo get some sort of a reaction but it’s not even a third of what American Alpha get. Unfortunately for the Hype Bros, they have no chance of being NXT’s top tag team.

The match was overall forgettable. And if the Hype Bros are not as popular as they would like to be, their opponents are even worse. Angelo Dawkins inexplicably switched his tag team partner but no one cared about it.

Emma def. Deonna Purrazzo

The backstage interaction between Deonna, Emma and Dana Brooke showed us one more time what Deonna can do on mic and it isn’t much. He reminds me a lot of Brie Bella when she speaks. Their acting skills are on par, which is not a compliment.

The crowd also doesn’t buy Deonna Purrazzo. She was supposed to be the face in this but the fans kept cheering for Emma, who inevitably won.

It’s sad that I don’t see Emma climbing to the top of the NXT Division but I also don’t see her being big on the main roster. The main roster Divas Division can’t handle the talent it has right now, so I don’t see how it can do any good for Emma. Yet, Emma is far from the NXT title.

Tommaso Ciampa def. Jesse Sorenson

Tommaso Ciampa finally was himself. The Sicilian Psychopath entered the NXT ring. The intensity in his wrestling was insane. It felt as if until last night, Cimapa was holding back and when he entered the ring with Sorenson, it all came out.

The WWE needs to use Ciampa well. They need to get him permanently and give him a good position on the roster. However, the NXT locker room is full of talent these days, many big names. Finding a spot for everyone might prove to be too difficult.

Asuka & Bayley def. Eva Marie & Nia Jax

This match was a pleasure to watch for one reason only – Eva got her backside handed ot her. I don’t know what was funnier – watching Asuka demolish Eva Marie, or seeing Nia Jax squash Eva like a bug. Regardless, they were both terribly satisfying.

Asuka vs. Bayley will be epic. If there’s anyone, who could outdo Bayley right now, it’s Asuka. My only concern is that Asuka as a champ will be struggling to deliver promos. Also, finding someone qualified to defeat Asuka will be a challenge.

Austin Aries

Austin Aries’ promo was sweet. Calling Baron Corbin insecure was on point. That sort of haughtiness will surely get under Corbin’s skin.

Giving Austin Takeover Dallas as a debut stage is a good call. That way, he’ll make more of an impact. A simple NXT show would have been below his standard.

American Alpha def. The Vaudevillains

Americna Alpha are getting more and more impressive. They wrestled as a perfect tag team and that was when they were being compared to the Vaudevillains. The way Gable and Jordan just click with each other and with the WWE Universe is just unbelievable.

They are also amazing individually. That German Gable pulled off at the end made me jump out of my seat. Jordan followed with a brutal Belly to Belly on the ramp and heat just blew the roof off.

The Vaudevillains didn’t stand a chance from a storytelling point of view. With heel champions and the Vaudevillains having recently reverted to being heel, they just wouldn’t fit in. Much like Emma, they are stuck. Their time on top of the NXT Tag Team Division is gone but the main roster will probably treat them like a joke.
