On this week’s episode of NXT Shinsuke Nakamura and Austin Aries have their NXT TV debut matches, while Baron Corbin and The Vaudevillains wrestle their last on the way up to the main roster. Let’s see what else the night had to offer!
Austin Aries def. Angelo Dawkins
If there was an official NXT jobber list, Angelo Dawkins would be on it, so there was no question as to who was going to win. Austin Aries was the smaller man in the match but it didn’t make his victory any more meaningful. The only thing the fans were concerned about was that the Brainbuster isn’t going to be Austin’s finisher any more.
With Shinsuke Nakamura’s debut, Austin Aries’ entry to the NXT was overshadowed. His match at TakeOver was nowhere near the Nakamura vs. Zayn one. It speaks of the quality of the program is an international superstar like Aries has to fight to get noticed.
Alexa Bliss def. Tessa Blanchard
For someone, who appears on NXT TV for the first time, Tessa Blanchard got a massive reaction. I can’t say it wasn’t deserved. The way she held herself in the ring demonstrated experience and professionalism. And also, she did her fair share of trash talking, which shows she can tell a story too.
Alex Bliss, however, is perfection. She got lost in the shuffle when Blake and Murphy lost the titles but she deserves to get back to the top. She’s one of the best in the division at the moment.
Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa def. The Vaudevillains
Every time I see Gargano in the ring he amazes me. He moves differently than most people. His counters are unpredictable. Also, trying desperately to fight off Aiden English, while crawling on his back, was a nice touch of storytelling. It engaged the fans into the action.
This possibly was the last time we’ll see the Vaudevillains on NXT and it was customary to leave on a loss. Hopefully, Gargano and Ciampa will use the momentum to climb up in the division. That’s of course of they are going to stay a team because they often wrestle solo.
Baron Corbin def. Tucker Knight
Baron Corbin , for once, didn’t have the size advantage but that didn’t stop him from completely dominating the fight all the way through. Corbin’s never looked better. It’s the right time for a call-up.
Unlike the Vaudevillains, Corbin picked up a victory on his way out. That’s rare but it was to be expected, knowing that he was facing a jobber just after he had lost a big match at Takeover Dallas.
Enzo & Cass / American Alpha
Enzo asked for a match and American Alpha agreed. It’s a friendly that I’d want to watch. The fact that the titles are not on the line means that it could be anyone’s game, although it’s more likely that Enzo and Cass will give Jordan and Gable the victory.
Bayley def. Liv Morgan
Liv Morgan is flashy in the ring. She has potential because she tells a story in the ring. That back bridge Matrix-like escape was impressive-looking. However, I’m not convinced how effective her style is.
Bayley picked up a victory and gave a motivational speech afterwards. It seems like she isn’t going anywhere just yet. I can understand that decision. The NXT Women’s Division still needs her while the main roster has plenty of talent and she’d get lost there.
Shinsuke Nakamura def. Tye Dillinger
There was no doubt that Shinsuke was going to win this and yet, it was entertaining. There was a lot of taunting and acting in the beginning, which cheered up the crowd. It was a very different match than the one at Takeover. It was almost too easy for Shinsuke.
Nakamura is so flexible it’s scary. It feels like his body is made of clay. His kicks to the head seem effortless. The crowd adores him. The only issue he’ll have in the future is the language barrier.
