This week on NXT arguably the two most beloved teams in the history of the show clashed, as Enzo and Cass faced American Alpha for the first time. The newest party gimmick of NXT made its debut as No Way Jose went up against Alexander Wolfe. What else happened on NXT? Find out now!
American Alpha def. Enzo & Big Cass
Usually, matches start slowly with the competitors testing each other. Here, even the opening exchange between Enzo Amore and Chad Gable was electrifying. It got the fans to chant THIS IS WRESTLING in the first 5 min of the match.
Big Cass enjoyed hurting Gable a bit too much. If I was watching this without any previous knowledge of the competitors, I would have thought Enzo and Cass were the heel team.
Jason Jordan amazes me every time. It’s no secret that Chad Gable just oozes charisma but the level of character Jason Jordan suddenly started showing is new and it’s brilliant.
Enzo and Cass lost which was to be expected. They are on the hunt for the WWE Tag Team Titles, so it was a question of courtesy to give momentum to the new top team in NXT.
No Way Jose def. Alexander Wolfe
Where do I even begin?! If there’s a gimmick that screams jobber, that’s No Way Jose’s . Come on! His actual name is No Way Jose?!? It’s not even a catchphrase, no, it’s a NAME…
The gimmick is so bad that despite this being No Way Jose’s debut, I expected to see him get crushed by Alexander Wolfe in under 30s. When it didn’t happen, it simply looked fake.
There’s way too much dancing in Jose’s wrestling for any of it to look credible. And his finisher is terrible. A punch?! Seriously?! Come on!
In general, I wonder if I’ve ever seen a worse gimmick come out of NXT. This is on the level of Bull Fit. I don’t understand what the Creative were thinking with this.
Nia Jax def. Deonna Purrazzo
This wasn’t just a match between Nia Jax and Deonnna Purrazzo. For me, that was the return of Nia Jax.
She had fallen off the radar after the initial noise surrounding her arrival. Now, she once again squashed another competitor without breaking a sweat. Jax is building her momentum up.
Deonna Purrazzo simply has no character. She’s not even consistent in whether she plays a heel or a face.
Samoa Joe def. Apollo Crews
This was meant to be a very competitive match-up. Samoa Joe had been wrestling talented indie guys on NXT but he hadn’t wrestled someone as big as Apollo Crews, so the style of fighting promised to be different.
However, in this case, size didn’t seem to matter. Samoa Joe kept dominating Apollo throughout the match. Joe wasn’t fazed the slightest by Crews’ athletics or strength.
Apollo loses nothing here because he’s already on the main roster. Joe, on the other hand, gains a lot. Right now, he’s solidified as the top heel of NXT.
