The Drifter might have awoken the Demon. Alex Riley has his farewell match against The King of Strong Style – Shinsuke Nakamura. Also, the NXT Tag Team Revolution is in full swing with the champs back on the show. Let’s talk NXT!
Finn Balor/Elias Samson
Finn Balor wasn’t really allowed to talk at this point and it served to build up his frustration and aggression, which exploded later on in the show.
Elias Samson in the Drifter gimmick is simply awesome. The flower pattern on the scarf instantly made him look more annoying. If you want to look like a douche, the scarf always does the trick.
The problem with a guitar-involving gimmick is that the guitar will eventually end up being broken. Elias seemed to manage to save it this time but if the script is planning on having his instrument tossed around, then Samson should definitely consider leaving his favorite guitar back at home.
American Alpha def. Skyler & Hollis
It was obvious that American Alpha were going to win because they were facing two jobbers who practically weren’t a team until yesterday.
It’s a bad way to book the champs. Long breaks off TV and squashing jobbers doesn’t really help. The same thing happened to the Vaudevillains. They were so over when they won the titles and then their reign turned out to be boring.
The rivalry with the Revival might help Jordan and Gable get some attention back on the titles. However, with no other credible heel teams on the roster, it’s difficult to imagine what American Alpha will do afterwards.
Shinsuke Nakamura def. Alex Riley
It’s strange and sad when you watch a match of a wrestler who’s already been fired. It’s a damn shame the WWE wasted Riley. His new gimmick was strong and his promo skills were top notch, as well.
Shinsuke’s growing on me every time I see him. As an anime fan, I can see what type of character he’s playing and it spells out massacre in blood and corpses. So refreshing to see that in the WWE. I just don’t know if people who haven’t been exposed to the Japanese culture would be as intrigued by his gimmick, as I am.
Austin Aries will have to find a partner to face Blake and Murphy next week. The way I see it, Blake and Murphy will lose and Alexa Bliss will dump them. There’s been tension between the three of them over the last few weeks.
As for Austin’s partner, my money’s on Bobby Roode. What do you think?
Alexa Bliss def. Rachel Ellering
Alexa’s making a habit of defeating generational superstars. This might turn into some weird spin-off of the Legend Killer gimmick. Although I don’t think Alexa needs that. She has a strong heel personality as it is.
I wasn’t impressed with Rachel Ellering. When you hear that someone comes from a wrestling dynasty, the expectations inevitably get higher and it’s difficult to reach them.
Finn Balor def. Elias Samson
Finn Balor just ran through Elias Samson without blinking. I expected the Drifter to put up more of a fight. He’s becoming a glorified jobber. I hoped that this new persona would get Samson pushed.
The promo Finn cut after the match was simply brilliant. That’s the intensity we want to see from the Demon. Balor was way too tame until now. The face character was somewhat restricting to him but he finally found his niche.
The Balor/Joe rivalry just doesn’t get boring. It’s been going on for a while now but they manage to keep the fire burning. The promos aren’t too long and most of the storytelling is happening in the ring. That’s what makes it so good.
