The Tag Team Division on NXT gets hotter and hotter every week. How did the #1 contenders for the NXT Tag Team Titles do against the upcoming pairing of Gargano and Ciampa? What’s the fate of Blake and Murphy’s partnership? That and much more! Let’s talk NXT!
The Revival/ Ciampa & Gargano
Listening to this exchange, I suddenly realized that we barely ever hear either one of these teams give long promos. Maybe a few lines after a match but that’s about it. It was nice to hear them on the mic longer. It helps character development.
Gargano and Ciampa jumped right into the title picture. The way the booking goes, they’ll be the next NXT tag team champions.
Tye Dillinger def. Buddy Murphy
The match was average but no one really cared about that. The entire time, I was waiting for an appearance by Wesley Blake. Even as the ref was counting to three, I expected him to come out.
Nothing happened. Tye won clean. That, I didn’t expect. At least, I thought if Murphy lost fair and square, then Blake would come out to mock him or show disapproval. Nothing. He didn’t show up at all. I found that strange.
Why would the WWE break up Muprhy and Blake? I don’t see how they’d make it as singles competitors. This storyline, if it truly leads to the end of Blake and Murphy, will be a disaster.
Samoa Joe/ Finn Balor
This was one awkward interview. Corey’s questions were making the situation uncomfortable and what made things ever more unbearable was that despite the tension, the interview was peaceful. In the case of Balor and Joe, a fight would have eased up the atmosphere.
Austin Aries def. Elias Samson
There was no real suspense here. The Drifter didn’t stand a chance because Aries needs the momentum. He can’t face Nakamura at a loss.
I wonder if it really bothers Aries. He came in as a face but the crowd chose Nakamura over him. The WWE just went with the flow but it was ultimately the fans who made Shinsuke the babyface.
Gargano & Ciampa def. The Revival
Gargano and Ciampa won. I didn’t see that coming. Although their impressive streak, I thought that the Revival would keep their momentum before TakeOver. The loss made things that much more exciting.
In the end of the day, Gargano and Ciampa now have a talking point to soon try and insert themselves in the title picture. The beat down after the fight helped Dash and Dawson save face.
What frustrates me is that we barely see American Alpha any more. They are so entertaining and when they were chasing the titles we got a lot of them, which made them even more popular. Now, with the gold, we are lucky to get a few seconds of them.
It was a good contract signing segment. Nia’s delivery was a bit amateurish but she’ll get better. It seemed like she was stressed and so she overacted her facial expressions but the more exposure she gets, the more comfortable she’ll become on stage.
The fact that Nia had the upper hand in this exchange humanized Asuka and that’s a good thing. The champ feels invincible even when it’s the huge Jax, threatening her. Now we see that there is a chance Asuka struggles to win. This makes the fight more interesting.
