Cesaro def. Sheamus, Apollo Crews & Alberto Del Rio
I don’t know where this match came from but it was a great idea. I personally would have liked to see a face Del Rio beat Rusev, which would have been a surprise. However, it can’t be denied that Cesaro was the most impressive man in this match.
When I heard Rusev’s music, I thought he was about to attack Cesaro but he asked him for a match instead. Being a face makes it imperative to make stupid decisions, so Cesaro was bound to accept.
Rusev def. Cesaro
When the match started, I thought it was unnecessary to make Cesaro the hurt underdog when he already has plenty of fan support. Then, as Rusev made him tap out, I realized that it was only done, so Cesaro can save some face in defeat.
It’s very disappointing. I think the surprising Fatal 4-Way was a good idea and it should have amounted to something more relevant than simply filling the card on a normal SmackDown.
On July 4th Rusev will face Titus again. Normally, that would have been ok. However, after seeing who else he could have faced, it feels underwhelming.
Dana Brooke def. Billie Key
Billie Key? Seriously? Billie Key got to the main roster before Bayley?! Talk about injustice! I surely hope that this isn’t permanent because it would be a disgrace!
Miz TV was actually fun, thanks to its guest – Dean Ambrose. The jokes were well-placed and the Mitch reference killed it.
The moment the sandwich came out with Miz, wearing white, I knew this suit was going to get ruined. What I didn’t see coming was Miz, standing tall at the end of this.
I hardly remember the last time Miz ended Miz TV without getting beat up at the end. I think it was a good choice to give him the edge here. He needs to look like a champion if his title is to be recognized.
Braun Strauman & Eric Rowan def. ????
This was the definition of a squash match. At least some local competitors got to be on WWE TV.
The New Day’s promo was epic. Kofi and Big E owned the Wyatts’ gimmick. The delivery was perfect.
However, Xavier’s facial expression alone gave Bray the opportunity to close the segment on a high note. The entire exchange was brilliant!
It sounds illogical to think that Kofi and Big E don’t see Woods’ behavior as odd. Maybe it’s all a rouse and the New Day are playing mind games of their own. If that is the case, the New Day won’t break up and the fans will be happy.
Sasha Banks def. Summer Rae
I was pleasantly surprised by this match. For the fans it was clear the Sasha was going to win but if you weren’t up-to-date with the WWE, you wouldn’t know by the in-ring action alone.
The girls actually had a decent match and Summer dominated the fight almost all the way through. People tend to forget that Summer can actually wrestle and that she was Sasha and Charlotte’s mentor. The girl doesn’t get enough credit.
The Boss will be a great Women’s Champion. She’s so over that she’ll breathe life back into the title.
Dean Ambrose def. The Miz
SmackDown was full of surprises. Much like Summer, Miz caught the fans off guard with a solid performance. It was a Champion vs. Champion match and it felt like one.
The Miz even managed to hit the Skull Crushing Finale. He was never going to win off it but he at least got to deliver his finisher without getting countered. Booking the match so evenly helped the Miz regain much needed momentum, despite the inevitable loss.
Dean Ambrose doesn’t change, title or no title. The gold usually gets characters tweaked but he’s exactly the same and I think the fans appreciate that. They like the fact that Ambrose is a down-to-earth guy.
