NXT is still struggling to fill in the gaps, left by the Draft 2 weeks ago but the tag team division seems to be back on track. New names enter the scene and some of them have quite the pull. Let’s talk NXT!
Hideo Itami def. Sean Maluta
Hideo Itami’s back but his return was disappointing. The match was under 5 min and there was no promo. Itami hadn’t had enough time to get as over as Shinsuke Nakamura is now before he got injured, so the long time off TV needed to be countered with something much more interesting.
It would have been nice to see a feud develop around the “attack” which “caused” Hideo’s injury. Too bad that by the time he came back, the people who oculd have been blamed for it had already left.
MoJo Rawley vs. Atkins
Samoa Joe crashed this match, as Mojo was about to win it. The segment was brutal and it was a nice piece of build-up.
Samoa Joe needs to look like an unstoppable beast if he’s to be taken seriously against Shinsuke Nakmaura. Even then, people would still think Shinsuke would win. Therefore, such rampage is the minimum Joe needs to do.
Asuka def. Aliyah
Asuka destroyed Aliyah. The way she went overboard, tilts her on the heel side but that’s only brcasue she’s facing Bayley. In reality, it fits Asuka’s character. She cares for no one; she’s a destructive psycho.
Aliyah seems to have improved a bit in the ring. However, we still have no idea what her mic skills are like. If they are on the same level they were on when she was on Breaking Ground, she’ll suffer.
After all stats of the NXT Women’s Division got called up, this vignette is gladly welcomed. Ember Moon, also known as Athena, will bring star power to the division.
Talking about star power, NXT’s replacing its lost stars with big names. Bobbie Roode made his official debut at a very pivotal time.
I’m a bit concerned, though, that his gimmick is too close to Austin Aries’. They both came in suits, arguing that they were international superstars that will make NXT. They’ll need to stand out from each other if the fans are to not lose interest.
The Revival def. TM 61
A title shot that early? Even though they failed TM 61 are getting quite the vote of confidence here.
Gargano and Ciampa vs. The Revival, however, is the real story. The Revival are starting to back off a bit. They sound more willing to escape and cheat and less like the hardcore villains they used to be.
Gargano and Ciampa are so over right now. They should get the titles and keep them. I can listen to them talk for hours and their wrestling is brilliant.
