The new WWE Universal Champion got crowned last night and his victory shook the wrestling world. Even Paul Heyman’s outstanding segment with Stephanie McMahon could not outshine the start of a reign so well-deserved! Let’s talk RAW!
Universal Championship Talk
The opening segment was well-balanced. Whoever could talk did so, Roman Reigns just threw punches around. It’s good Rollins gave away his promo time to Owens, imagine he had given it to Reigns, that would have been a disaster!
It’s strange how quickly the fans turn. Reigns for the US title =cheers but Reigns in the main event = instant boos. There could have been nothing more irritating for the crowd than seeing Reigns stand tall in the end.
Big Cass felt out of place. He looked confused and kept repeating he was a new guy. Even though he cracked another inappropriate joke, it’s blatantly obvious that he’s nowhere near Enzo’s level of mic skills.
Jericho def. Neville
It’s nice to see Neville in longer matches. He has so much skill to offer between the ropes. Then again, he’s still on a losing streak and I don’t see an end to it coming soon.
Nia Jax def. ???
Nia Jax keeps squashing unknown local competitors. It’s getting boring and repetitive. I wonder when this storyline will finally end.
Sami Zayn def. Jinder Mahal
Sami played the injured face in peril card and I thought he was going to lose. However, Sami came on top in the end, which is good for him and I totally approve.
Then again, this makes me wonder why the WWE hired back Jinder Mahal. He was a jobber before he got fired and he’s a jobber now. I see nothing in him that makes him stand out when it comes to wrestling either.
New Day & Bayley def. Anderson, Gallows & Dana Brooke
Bayley and the New Day fit in very well in each other’s gimmick. However, they amplify each other’s most annoying characteristics, making this team barely bearable.
Otherwise, the match was good, mostly thanks to the Gallows & Anderson vs. The New Day feud. It’s only a matter of time until the titles change hands.
Bayley pinned Dana for a second time in a row. It was to be expected, having in mind that Charlotte’s interest in the match was in focus all the way through. Since Sasha got injured, it’s Bayley’s time to become the face of the Women’s Division on RAW.
Sheamus def. Cesaro
Sheamus and Cesaro have great matches together. Adding a future championship opportunity to the feud gives it that little bit of excitement it was missing.
Things are going too well for Sheamus. 2:0 lead might very well end up being an overall loss.
Braun Strowman def. ???
Same thing I said about Nia Jax applies here. This boring squashing needs to end.
Paul Heyman/ Stephanie McMahon
That was one brilliant segment! Some of things that were said were so true that they were painful to listen to. I’m surprised Stephanie was booked to back down so easily.
CM Punk chants? Those had been gone for a while. I wonder though if they have any power any more.
Darren Young def. Titus O’Neil
Darren Young won with a ridiculously lame roll and Titus rampaged after the match. Basically, nothing’s changed and this feud is going nowhere.
This officially is the most useless rivalry on RAW at the moment. Nobody cares about Darren Young vs. Titus for the millionth time.
Kevin Owens def. Rollins, Reigns & Big Cass
The whole time it seemed like Rollins vs. Reigns was the focus and Owens and Big Cass were just filling. Big Cass got eliminated early, as he was not needed anyway.
When Roman Reigns took out everyone, only to get screwed by Triple H, I thought to myself: not this again! However, when Triple H turned on Rollins to give KO the title, I was over the moon.
The WWE needed a new star on top to make things more exciting and Rollins was just begging to turn face, so this booking was perfect!
It made me laugh how a heel, who got handed a dirty victory, got deafening YOU DESERVE IT chants. The WWE Universe can be so brilliant sometimes!
