WWE SmackDown – Review, Highlights & Analysis from 11/10/2016

SmackDown Live followed No Mercy with a card, full of questionable booking decisions. The entertainment factor, however, was at a high with the audience, responding very well even to the weirdest of things that happened last night. Let’s talk SDLive!

Dolph Ziggler/The Miz

Right now Ziggler vs. The Miz is probably the best feud on SmackDown. Because of that the IC title feels like the most serious and prestigious belt on the show.

The SD Live writing team have done such a good job with this rivalry that when the Miz threatened Ziggler to only imagine what he’d do regain his title, it actually sounded like a legitimate threat. We now live in an era where the Miz can be a menacing character.

The only thing that ruined the atmosphere was the Spirit Squad. Miz & Dolph made the segment sound so serious, only to have it end with the theme song of the Spirit Squad. Disappointing.

Dolph Ziggler def. The Spirit Squad

Even if there were 5 of the Spirit Squad against Ziggler, they’d still be the disadvantaged side of the handicap match. Ziggler is far too over to struggle with this kind of a challenge.

The Miz, losing his temper, turning into a predator is a great way to keep the feud interesting. I only hope that there will be a little less shenanigans and a bit more of the Miz, actually being brutal this time around.

Mauro killed it with the “He killed Kenny!” joke. You can’t help but love this guy.

Daniel Bryan/ Shane McMahon

Testing every comparable division on the two brands at Survivor Series is a bold move. It brings some nostalgia back. However, it will be difficult to book the outcome. After all, RAW has the more star power in singles competition.

Naomi def. Camrella

Naomi is on a winning streak. It was all about Nikki, getting involved but after No Mercy and this, Naomi might start asking for title shots. My only problem with her is that she doesn’t have a believable gimmick.

Carmella vs. Nikki is the best female rivalry on SD Live. Backstage quarrels, match interruptions, fights, it’s all there. Regardless of who comes on top in the end, the feud has been entertaining.

Jimmy Uso def. Chad Gable

This match felt a bit deflated. The storyline here didn’t get any progression. The Usos cheated to win once again but what we need is a proper, long wrestling match between the two teams ala Revival vs. American Alpha. That would heat up the situation.

Then again, we can’t fault either team. Alpha are perfect baby faces and the Usos quickly grew to become the best heels on the roster.

Zack Ryder & Mojo Rawley/ The Ascension

I’m curious about the interaction between these two teams. Seeing the Ascension get attention after so long on the jobbers list, makes me happy. Hopefully, Konnor and Viktor are going to regain their NXT glory.

James Ellsworth def. AJ Styles

This segment split the fans right in the middle. Some are outraged by the fact that AJ Styles was booked to lose and half were just happy to laugh at the goofiness of it all.

In reality, I don’t think any of it hurt Styles. Nobody believes he lost to anybody else but Dean Ambrose. The WWE just ran with the WWE Universe’s  jokes about Ellsworth and delivered on the entertainment front. It also made Styles hate Ambrose even more, while the Lunatic Fringe got under his skin. It’s his usual MO.

The only concern here is that giving Ellsworth a title shot next week is a step too far. The joke was funny once. Taking it further is a mistake.

Bray Wyatt & Luke Harper def. Randy Orton & Kane

I wasn’t impressed with the main event. There wasn’t too much wrestling. Kane took a lot of beating, only to make Orton look strong once he got the hot tag.

The mind games when they become so out of control are not as interesting any more. The WWE needs to keep things believable. Disappearing humans for a second week in a row, really?

The only good thing about this segment was the return of Luke Harper. After Erick Rowan got sidelined by an injury once again, Harper was much needed to keep Bray’s cult leader gimmick alive.
