Last SmackDown before TLC and the atmosphere is intense! Contract signing, disqualifications and a high-risk spots- that’s all on the card. Let’s talk SmackDown!
Alexa Bliss/Becky Lynch
This was a good contract signing. Both women felt comfortable on the microphone and the conversation flowed. The crowd was engaged, reacting to every jab exchanged between the girls.
This might have been Becky’s best segment as a champ. She was all fire and intensity. She was the active party, going after Alexa. Things might not have gone her way but the champ looked great.
Alexa Bliss was standing tall at the end of the segment but she barely escaped. Bliss will need more than that to defeat Becky at TLC.
Kalisto & Dolph Ziggler def. The Miz and Baron Corbin /DQ/
The animosity between the men on both sides was almost tangible. It felt nothing like a tag team match. That was just two separate pairs of feuding guys, trying to destroy each other whenever they could.
Miz and Ziggler were relentless. Their rivalry has been on for a while now but every time they get in the ring together they bring out so much passion, it’s hard not to get dragged into the action.
Kalisto was incredible. Where has this quality been all this time? The WWE surely knows how to waste talent. I’m glad he’s getting a push now.
Carmella used Nikki’s relationship with John Cena again but this time it didn’t work out as well. The promo wasn’t as strong and you could hear it in the crowd’s reaction. The fans were barely responding throughout the segment.
Nikki coming out full force onto Carmella was good though. It was a catfight without any fancy moves and in this occasion it worked. After all, this is about a woman, talking smack about another woman’s relationship. This kind of a brawl is what you’d expect to see. Well done.
The Ambrose Asylum turned out to be a really bad place to be for James Ellsworth. AJ Styles completely and utterly destroyed Ellsworth. Props to James, he takes a lot of hits and difficult spots. That Styles clash might have just killed him. He’s working for that jobber’s contract.
Before the beat-down took place, an interesting topic was raised. Does Ellsworth really want Ambrose to win? My guess would be that Ellsworth will cost Ambrose the match at TLC. The only question is whether it will be on purpose or not.
At the end of the show, this segment got its continuation with a backstage brawl between AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose, in which the Lunatic Fringe wiped the floor with the champ.
This is the Ambrose we want to see – deranged, reckless and angry. Dean is a funny guy but the fans want to watch him toss people over sofas and break stuff.
Kane def. Luke Harper
Kane is becoming a constant force on SmackDown. He’s consistently winning matches and it’s good to have a menacing force, lurking in the background.
However, this match might have been the start of something much bigger. Before the fight, Randy Orton questioned Harper’s capabilities. We can already see how the Viper will plant the seeds of destruction inside the Wyatt Family.
The Wyatt Family def. American Alpha
Sadly, American Alpha didn’t stand a chance. We didn’t get to see much of the Gable magic that the fans love so much. Gable and Jordan only barely survived until it was all over.
Luke Harper and Randy Orton both got involved to deliver the pin to Bray. The leader got all the glory and he was delighted. However, this is only the quiet before the storm.
At TLC, The New Wyatt Family will defeat Slater and Rhyno. It was a good fairy tale until it lasted but the focus will now be on the Wyatt/Orton run as champs and the eventual break down of the Wyatt Family, caused by the scheming of the Viper.
